friday fortunes

I have been making fortune cookies necklaces for nearly 5 years and so many times I my wonderful customers share with me the story of the fortune they chose or just order a custom fortune message that leaves an impression.  I came up with the idea to to share these fortunes on Friday.  (I think the f’s in “F”riday “F”ortunes sounds better than “M”onday “F”ortunes or any other day…)

The first story I share with you is one I received only a few days ago and everytime I read it, I get tears in my eyes.  A truly beautiful story…

Christina,

I wanted you to know how special this necklace is.  My grandmother who lived to be 100 years and 4 months old, loved butterflies.  She had stained glass butterflies on her sliding glass door, she kept bookmark butterflies in her bible to mark verses, she had shirts with butterflies, etc.

I never really talked to her about them, I just knew she loved them.  She was of her right mind up until she passed.  She and I were best friends.

She most likely would have lived much longer, but she actually fell and hit her head, which caused a hemorrhage.  I was able to get there and spend two nights with her in the hospice.  The third night, I was sitting by her bed holding her hand.  She was in and out of a coma, when she suddenly woke, looked at me and my daughter, squeezed my hand, and took her last breath.  My daughter ran to get the nurse, who came to her bedside and put her stethoscope to her heart.  She listened for several seconds, then smiled.  She looked up and said, that the sound of my grandmothers heart as it took it’s last beat, sounded like a bunch of fluttering butterflies.

This moment has meant so much to me throughout the years.  I was so excited to see this necklace.  I appreciate you making great things so that those of us with special memories, can hang on to them longer.
